A Kmart superstore is part of a commercial development that was approved Thursday night by the Henderson Planning Commission.
The 149,000-square-foot Kmart is part of a larger 252,606-square-foot project on 28 acres planned for Eastern Avenue and Horizon Ridge Parkway, in the Westgate area.
The project, now known as Eastern Commons, is being developed by Weingarten Realty.
In addition to retail space, the project will feature two commercial offices measuring 11,761 square feet and 18,245 square feet respectively.
A car wash and lube store, a bank, two drive-through outlets and a restaurant are also to be built.
In approving the project, planning commissioners said the commercial uses would not adversely impact Horizon Ridge Parkway, which the city decided not to widen after residents protested last year.
While the Planning Commission's vote was final on parts of the project, including the architectural review and tentative map, the zoning change and comprehensive plan amendment must still go before the City Council on March 7.
