Casino executive claims he was fired after inaccurate drug test

Friday, Feb. 11, 2000 | 11:55 a.m.

A former New Frontier hotel-casino executive sued a Las Vegas toxicology laboratory, alleging an inaccurate report on his drug test results cost him his job.

In a Clark County District Court suit, John Buyachek, who was hired as New Frontier's director of casino marketing on Feb. 9, 1998, alleged APL Healthcare Group Inc. doing business as Associated Pathologists Laboratories took a hair sample from him on Feb. 10, 1998, and wrongfully reported he tested positive for marijuana use.

Buyachek, who alleged he didn't use marijuana and that the drug wasn't present in his system, said Frontier terminated his employment after it received APL Healthcare's false drug test report, causing him to lose an opportunity to earn at least $79,787 a year.

APL officials couldn't be reached for comment.
