Life Center sponsors healthy living seminar

Free advice offered about financial settlements
Mainor and Harris Law Firm is sponsoring a free seminar on construction defects at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.
The seminar will cover basics of construction defects, reconstruction after settlement and financial advice on settlement funds. For more information, call 385-1400.
Xeriscape topic of water-use presentation
Representatives of the Southern Nevada Water Authority will address the American Society of Landscape Architects at noon Tuesday inside the Sogg Architecture Building at UNLV.
The presentation will focus on the benefits of xeriscape, a water-efficient landscape design that incorporates a variety of low-water-use, low maintenance plants and is open to the public. Call 253-9390.
Expert speaks on kidneys, transplants
Dr. Raymond Heilman will speak on "New Trends in Care of Kidneys and Transplantation" to the Organ Transplant Support Group 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sunrise Hospital Auditorium.

Workshop to be held for retired executives
The Las Vegas chapter of Service Corps of Retired Executives will offer a "Starting A New Business" workshop at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 17 at the Foley Federal Building, 300 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Suite 1100.
SCORE counselors will cover marketing, cash flow, record keeping, the business plan and a checklist for licensing, permits and other requirements. Cost is $30 if prepaid or $35 at the door. Call 388-6104.
Local library presents Anasi puppet show

Operatic versions of Negro spirituals ring at UNLV
Dr. Alfonse Anderson of the UNLV Music Department will lead "Songs of the Spirit," vocal soloists in operatic interpretations of Negro spirituals.

2-day celebration honors African American culture
"Remembering the Freedoms" is a two-day festival of African American culture and contributions.

Friendship Circle presents a celebration of the heart
Friendship Circle, the Salvation Army Adult Health Day Care program in Henderson, is celebrating 15 years of service to the frail elderly and young adults with disabilities.
Friendship Circle will celebrate with a health fair, "Celebration of the Heart," 12:30-3 p.m. Monday at the center, 830 E. Lake Mead Drive, Henderson. Call 565-8836.
Mediators, advocates may attend custody evaluation
Alternative Solutions Mediation Services is sponsoring a workshop, "Child Custody Evaluation Training, Basic and Advanced" on Feb. 17-18. The instructor is Philip Stahl, Ph.D., author of "Conducting Child Custody Evaluations: A Comprehensive Guide and Complex Issues in Child Custody Evaluations."
