The foundation was set up as part of a settlement between most states and tobacco companies. Grants range from $50,000 for states that haven't completed youth tobacco surveys to $1 million for states that have.
Grants can be renewed annually for up to three years, Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa said, adding that she looks forward to working with other Nevada officials, including state schools chief Mary Peterson, to ensure the state gets its cut of the money.
Tobacco manufacturers must pay the foundation $250 million over 10 years, and the foundation in turn will carry out a national advertising and education program to counter youth tobacco use.
