The U.S. gaming industry, which regularly faces adverse legislation in Congress, hopes to receive a public relations boost next week in Washington D.C. when it is honored for charitable contributions by the United Way.
Mirage Resorts Chairman and Chief Executive Steve Wynn is scheduled to be the keynote speaker Tuesday during a United Way luncheon honoring the industry in the Rayburn House Office Building.
Local United Way groups set to participate are from the three big casino states -- Nevada, New Jersey and Mississippi -- as well as states with fewer casinos including Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana and Louisiana.
The gaming industry annually donates $10 million through local United Way campaigns, the United Way said.
