Elko radio host sheds pounds for charity
Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000 | 4:10 a.m.
KLKO-FM disc jockey Jim Berry is collecting pledges from listeners to lose weight. Money raised will benefit the Northern Nevada "Make-A-Wish" Foundation.
Berry said the idea evolved from a scheme to get his boss to buy him a set of titanium gold clubs if he dropped 100 pounds.
Now, local businesses, civic groups and others are pledging per pound to "trim Jim."
Berry said he's battled a weight problem all his life, and admits to tipping the scales now at close to 400 pounds.
But he said he's already shed 20 pounds and raised about $4,000 for the "Make-A-Wish" challenge.
He hopes to raise $100,000 by fall.
