Sprint, UBS go for blood on V-Day
Sprint PCS and United Blood Services are sponsoring a community blood drive 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at the Sprint PCS store, 2090 N. Rainbow Blvd.
Those who donate will be treated to all sorts of complimentary Valentine's Day presents, including Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, refreshments and photos with Cupid. Donors must be at least 17 years old, weight at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. Call 228-GIVE.
Benefit will feature musical favorites of old
The Children's Miracle Network and Clark County Law Foundation will host "Chocolate and Champagne: A Valentine's Day Fantasy Benefit" at the Venetian hotel-casino.
The main event will include a multicourse gala charity dinner and concert by Hearts and Souls, starring Ben E. King, Billy Preston and the Billy Preston Orchestra, and Sam Moore of Sam and Dave.
The Chocolate and Champagne fund-raiser will benefit Children's Miracle Network, UMC Foundation and Clark County Law Foundation. Call 383-2326.
Rangers hosting evenings of nature
National Park Rangers from Lake Mead National Recreation Area will present a series of evening nature programs during February and March to better acquaint residents with the desert that surrounds them. The first talk will be today at 7 p.m. in the Summerlin Library and Performing Arts Center, 1771 Inner Circle Drive. Admission is free to all programs in the series. Call 293-8990.
Minority scholarship fund-raiser to be held
The Southern Nevada Black Nurses Association is holding a bachelor auction and dance 8 p.m.-midnight Saturday at the Clark County Government Center, 500 Grand Central Parkway under the pyramid. The event is a fund-raiser for scholarship money. Call 615-3575 or 680-9650.
Gospel music to resound at rec center
The Black Mountain Recreation Center is hosting an evening of gospel music 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the center, 599 Greenway Road. The free event is sponsored by the city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department.
Gospel Fest will include singing, stomping and hand clapping. Special guest performers will also be on hand. Tickets are free but required for admission. Call 565-2880.
Performance strikes up at westside library
Blues and Baseball's third annual "Remember The Freedoms" celebration of African American art, dance, song and history will take place 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd. Call 632-7682.
Mobile unit offers free mammograms
The Women's Health Connection, a breast and cervical cancer early detection program and the Clark County Health District's Family Planning department will provide free mammograms and Pap smears Feb. 14-16 to women who meet the qualification guidelines. A mobile unit will be stationed at the health district's main office, 625 Shadow Lane. Call 383-1375.
Firemen, friends clean up for local foundation
The Clark County Fire Department is hosting a car wash fund-raiser 9 a.m.-4 p.m Saturday at the fire department's Training Center, 4425 W. Tropicana Ave.
Personnel with the Firefighters Burn Fund and the Wind and Fire Motorcycle Club will be washing cars to raise money for the Alisa Ann Ruch Fund Foundation, Las Vegas Chapter. Contact Bob Leinbach at 455-7338.
Long-term care topic of seminar
