Letter: Japanese can’t run from history
Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000 | 9:26 a.m.
World War II was a very low period in human history. The atrocities committed by the Axis powers displayed the worst of mankind. The Nazis and the role which they played in the horror needs no further explanation ... it speaks for itself. However, for the Japanese to fail to acknowledge the atrocities committed by them is unforgivable! The proof is there ... what more can be said? In fact they do not even teach their children about what was done.
If the German people and their government can admit to their wrongdoings, and attempt to rectify these wrongs, why can't the Japanese do the same? This is a question to which we all deserve a viable answer ... not just excuses! Ignoring what happened will not change the facts. It is about time that the Japanese government and its people stand up and do what is right.
