Southern Nevada racers are leading the point standings in three classes after Round 1 of the five-race 2000 SCORE Desert Series.
Following last weekend's season-opening SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge, brothers Tim and Ed Herbst are leading the featured Trophy-Truck division in a Ford F-150, Billy Goerke and Brian Collins are in front of Class 8 in a Chevrolet C1500 and Danny Anderson is leading Class 10 in his Toyota-powered Jimco desert race car.
The Herbsts, Collins and Anderson are defending SCORE Desert Series champions in their respective classes.
Two other area drivers, Sammy Ehrenberg in Class 1-2/1600 and Mark Hutchins in Class 10, are third in their individual classes after one race. Other locals in the top 10 in their classes are: Lonny Helmbolt (eighth in Trophy-Truck); Troy Herbst (10th in Class 1); Bekki Freeman (ninth in Class 1-2/1600); and Kenny Thatcher (eighth in Class 9).
Round 2 of the SCORE Desert Series will be the 14th annual San Felipe 250, to be held March 17-19 in Mexico.
