Lady Rebels lose on last-second shot

Angie Gorton drove the left side of the lane and made a layup with 1.5 seconds remaining to give Colorado State an 81-79 victory over UNLV in a Mountain West Conference women's basketball game Thursday at the Thomas & Mack Center.

UNLV trailed CSU by 10 points, 57-47, with 14:13 left, but battled back to tie the score at 70-70 with five minutes to play.

CSU then took a six-point advantage at 76-70 with 3:36 left, but the Lady Rebels went on a 9-3 run that included two Constance Jinks free throws with 18.1 seconds left to tie the score at 79.

Colorado State (15-4, 5-1 MWC) had four players score in double figures, led by Gorton's 21. Jacque Johnson added 18, Heather Haanen had 14 and Ashley Augspurger contributed 13.

The Rams shot a season-high 66 percent from the field (33-of-50).

UNLV (10-9, 2-4 MWC) also had four players in double figures, led by Linda Frohlich's 21 points. Jinks added 19, Kinesha Davis contributed 15 and Carlesa Dixon had 11.

UNLV's next game will be at 5 p.m. Saturday against Wyoming at the Thomas & Mack. The game will be part of a UNLV basketball doubleheader and will precede the men's game against Utah.
