Editorial: More DMV workers should reduce lines

The Legislature's Interim Finance Committee wisely approved Gov. Kenny Guinn's emergency request to add 57 more employees to the Department of Motor Vehicles, where waits of more than two hours are common for customers. These interminable waits can be attributed to a new computer system brought online last year that ironically was supposed to improve service.
DMV employees still are trying to correct many of the unexpected problems with the new computer system, creating the need for more help, especially since the DMV soon will be ushering in a new way for motorists to renew their licenses and registration by computer. Now that Guinn has these funds, though, it is incumbent he show in a few months that progress is being made.
