A zoning committee for the school district was told at a meeting this week that each of the three new high schools will be at capacity when they open.
In fact, all 13 Washoe County high schools combined are expected to be at 99 percent of capacity.
The new Spanish Springs High School is scheduled to open in the fall of 2001, followed by North Valleys High School in the spring of 2002 and Damonte Ranch High School in the fall of 2002.
Each will have an enrollment capacity of about 1,800.
Five Washoe County high schools are currently well in excess of their capacity. Sparks High School has 442 students more than it is designed for, McQueen, 372; Reed, 358; Hug, 315; and Reno High, 207.
