Oak Park police officer mourned

At his funeral Wednesday afternoon, Sgt. Solomon Bell was eulogized as a devoted friend, a mentor, and a hard-working cop whose goal was one day to become police chief.
"I was honored to be asked to speak here today," said Lt. Richard Cain of the Oak Park Department of Public Safety. "He gave 110 percent of himself every day. He took pride in his accomplishments and had every right to be proud."
Nearly half of the mourners at Hope United Methodist Church were police officers from numerous cities.
One of Bell's best friends for nine years, Oak Park Officer Kevin Edmonds told The Detroit News, "I've cried more than I can remember. My mind and heart are drowning in tears."
Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit.
