NLV leases land from county for pool
The city of North Las Vegas has entered into a 99-year interlocal agreement with Clark County for the lease of county property for a new recreation center and swimming pool on Allen Lane and Alexander Road in North Las Vegas.
The interlocal agreement is for the lease of 11.42 acres of property owned by Clark County. The term of the lease is for 99 years from Feb. 15, 2000, to Feb. 14, 2099 for $1 per year.
City finds itself ahead by $4 million
A midyear budget review shows North Las Vegas had $4 million more than expected in this year's fiscal budget and will apply it to the general fund.
The budget for 1999-2000 projected an opening balance of $3 million, while the actual opening balance was $7.2 million.
The excess was due to savings in the general funds department expenses and greater than anticipated revenues, according to staff reports.
The City Council on Wednesday authorized Finance Director Vtyas Vaitkus to apply the excess to the general fund for department use and forward the necessary documents to the Department of Taxation.
$100,000 set aside for senior center
The North Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency approved setting aside $100,000 toward the purchase of property located at 700 Lola Ave. for a senior center.
The city had made an offer on the property, but is waiting to hear from the owner, the Mormon Church, in Salt Lake City.
If the chapel is sold to the city, the Parks and Recreation Department will take over programming.
North Las Vegas currently has no senior center. Senior programs are run out of the city's sole recreation center. The new center would offer classes, transportation and a place for medical health service providers to hold clinics once or twice a week.
