McGroarty home from hospital

Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000 | 11:34 a.m.

District Judge John McGroarty was expected to be home today after spending two days in Valley Hospital for what has been described as complications of diabetes.

McGroarty, who is the second most senior judge on the District Court bench and has spent nearly 30 years in public service, fell ill because of "a diabetic reaction to low blood sugar" Monday morning, according to a county news release.

Paramedics were called and his condition was stabilized before he was transported to the hospital for testing.

McGroarty had been scheduled to preside this week over the penalty phase in the murder trial of Kenshawn Maxey, who was convicted last week of first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of two people during a robbery at the O'Aces Bar & Grill.
