Letter: Prostitution foe not thinking right
Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000 | 9:02 a.m.
If the powers-that-be in Clark and Washoe counties would grow up and mature, they would discover that in the counties that have legal prostitution there are no street-walkers, no diseases spread by the exchange of needles between street hookers and no transmission of sexually transmitted diseases by legal prostitutes.
We could get rid of the street-hooker problems and reduce the county vice budget by millions a year if we would ignore, rather than publicize the efforts of fundamentalist Christians to further their theocratic agenda to eliminate all adult sex businesses. Prostitution will never go away, but the smart people would tax it, license it and control it with mandatory checks by doctors, as is now practiced in several Nevada counties.
To prohibit prostitution is like spitting in the wind. It's time for everyone to grow up and take charge with sound thinking and take notice of positive, proven results -- something that Mr. Reese is incapable of doing.
