Strip restaurant loses judgment

Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000 | 10:12 a.m.

District Judge Michael Douglas has refused to overturn a County Commission vote authorizing a Strip pedestrian bridge in front of the Venetian hotel-casino, setting the stage for a showdown at the Nevada Supreme Court.

The owners of the Rosewood Grill sought the ruling on a petition for judicial review of the commission action as the latest round in its David and Goliath battle to retain a grip on the Strip site it has occupied for 40 years.

While Douglas on Monday declined to side with the restaurant -- which sits on an 89-foot wide piece of land in front of the Venetian and forced the resort to build around it rather than sell out -- the judge did grant an order halting the skywalk project until the high court hears an appeal.

The bridge is scheduled to be located 900 feet south of the intersection at Spring Mountain Road rather than at the corner because it would interfere with Treasure Island's pirate show.
