Reno police seek to slow pedestrian deaths

Two people were killed over the weekend in separate pedestrian accidents.
Lt. Hal Wood said the three-year state grant would help pay for public service announcements and pedestrian enforcement operations.
Tiffany Paquin, 18, was killed and her friend was critically injured when they were struck by a car Saturday night. Police said the two were crossing a dark stretch of North Virginia Street near Panther Driver.
Harlan Bryant, 59, died Sunday night when he was struck by a pickup truck near the intersection of Kietzke Lane and Mill Street.
"What they all have in common is it was after dark, the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and was out of the crosswalk," Wood said.
Nine pedestrians were killed in Reno last year. That compares with seven deaths the year before and three in 1997.
