Letter: What could be more violent than abortion?
Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000 | 9:24 a.m.
What is more violent than ripping a baby limb from limb and sucking him or her out of the mother's womb, or replacing a baby's amniotic fluid with saline so that the skin and lungs are burned? It's even more violent to be partly delivered and before you are swaddled and given to your mother, the doctor makes a hole in the back of your skull with a surgical instrument and removes you brain. Your lifeless body is then delivered completely and thrown in the trash.
Straight writes about responsible choices, but it's really about avoiding one's responsibilities. It would be responsible to make a decision and live with the consequences.
Science tells us that after conception there is a human life in the mother's womb. Whatever name you want to label that child is solely to remove that child's humanity.
If an abortion were performed on television for the world to see, abortion wouldn't be legal for long. We prefer to bury our heads in the sand.
