City of LV, Albertson’s contribute to valley wellness

Grants are available for community groups that provide child care and programs to improve health care.

The city of Las Vegas is making grant money of up to $15,000 available to licensed child care facilities looking to improve or expand their centers.

The grants can be used to buy new equipment, improve center conditions, or provide training, health benefits and tuition assistance for child care employees.

The city has allocated more than $275,000 in grants since 1997 and expects to allocate an additional $175,000 this year.

Applications for the grants will be accepted until Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. Call 229-2330 for information.

Albertson's is offering grants to nonprofit, community-based organizations in Southern Nevada and California to fund programs that promote health and well-being.

The grants are part of Albertson's Best Neighbor Policy. The program plans to contribute nearly $25 million and over 10 million pounds of food donations to homeless shelters and food banks each year in Southern Nevada and California.

Grant applications can be obtained at any Albertson's or by visiting the Albertson's website at www.Albertsons.com.

Organizations must provide proof of IRS tax exempt status and conduct outreach to apply for up to $50,000. The application deadline is March 10.
