Longtime surgeon Ernest Mack dies at 87

Mack died Wednesday night at the age of 87.
His longtime friend, Dr. John M. Davis, said Mack was the beginning of modern medicine in northern Nevada and the first trained neurosurgeon to come to the state in the 1940s.
He served for 25 years as a trustee of Washoe General Hospital, which later became Washoe Medical Center, and was instrumental in helping found the University of Nevada Medical School.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ross Burke & Knobel Mortuary.
