Letter: Bush family should get ready for ridicule
Friday, Dec. 29, 2000 | 9:27 a.m.
That's when I expect the national media to start its critique and fault-finding of G.W.'s wife, Laura. After all, they were relentless with Hillary Rodham Clinton from the beginning. Let's start with her hairstyle, makeup, wardrobe and figure flaws.
I hope she doesn't think she can stand quietly in the background looking like a dowdy schoolmarm and get away with it. What was good for Hillary should be good enough for Laura -- the same criticism, disparaging remarks and personal attacks.
As for G.W.'s twin 19-year-old daughters, they should not be off-limits either. In this country, 18 years old is considered a legal adult. Remember, Chelsea Clinton was a child under 18 when her father was elected in 1992. Barbara and Jenna Bush are adults, not children anymore.
Comedians and late-night TV will have a field day poking fun at G.W., who alone provides unlimited humorous material. Add in personal snipes at Laura Bush and it's icing on the cake. Throw in the two daughters, and I'll be grinning and smirking until 2004.
The country will be fascinated with before-and-after pictures of Laura Bush's revamped style and engrossed with hearing all the juicy tidbits about her from "friends" and "beltway insiders."
I trust the media will not let the nation down. Hurry up, Jan. 20 -- I can hardly wait!
