Cheyenne advances to LV title game

Upstart Cheyenne High posted two more victories Thursday to gain a berth in the championship game of the 32-team Las Vegas Prep Championships at Las Vegas High.
After downing city rival Durango 78-67 in their first outing, the Desert Shields knocked off Arroyo Grande, Calif., 54-49 in overtime.
Shamario Ormond scored 17 points, including several key baskets in the closing minutes and overtime, to lift Cheyenne over the tall visitors, who featured a 6-foot-11 center and a 6-10 forward.
Cheyenne will meet the winner of the second semifinal pitting Western against Peninsula, Calif., at 6 p.m. today.
In other games involving local teams, Western beat Highlands, Calif., 78-43, Las Vegas routed McLane, Calif., 84-39, Green Valley edged Las Vegas 62-59, Cimarron-Memorial nipped Granada Hills, Calif., 59-57, Silverado bombed Coalinga, Calif., 70-25 and Woodbridge, Calif., downed Clark 72-64.
