Authorities gear up for New Year’s Eve revelers

And law enforcement officials say they're ready for the throngs and to ensure public safety.
A fireworks display is planned in Reno, where up to 50,000 people are expected. Last year, officials estimate 60,000 people swarmed the streets at the stroke of midnight.
At Stateline, Douglas County officials said 300 officers from four different agencies will be on hand to make sure celebrants don't get out of hand.
U.S. 50, which runs through the Lake Tahoe casino district, will be closed to vehicle traffic from around 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Traffic will be diverted to a loop road behind the casinos.
Last year, 77 people were arrested at the lake. Most of the arrests were for disorderly conduct, battery and destruction of property.
