Lady Rebels face UNR at Thomas & Mack

The UNLV men's basketball team couldn't beat Nevada-Reno this year.

Today at 5 p.m., the Lady Rebels will try to avoid the same outcome.

And they might have better luck because it will be the third of seven home games for the Lady Rebels at the Thomas & Mack Center.

UNLV (7-2) enters the game following a 86-64 win over Pacific while Reno (6-4), the winners of three straight, hopes to add the Lady Rebels to its list of Mountain West victims. Already, the Wolf Pack has beaten Wyoming and Air Force.

Through nine games, UNLV is averaging under 72 points per game. In their seven victories, the Lady Rebels held opponents to under 50 percent in field goal shooting.

Against Pacific, UNLV shot a season best .614. Junior forward Linda Frohlich broke the school record for single game shooting percentage by making 16-of-17 shots totaling a season high 37 points. Frohlich leads the conference in scoring with an average of 20.3 points per game and is fifth in rebounding with 7.7.

Sophomore center Kate Smith leads UNR in scoring with 16.7 points per game while freshman guard Ashlee Orndorff leads with 9.4 rebounds.

UNLV leads the all-time series between the schools 15-5, but has won only one of the last four meetings. Last year, the Lady Rebels lost in overtime to the Pack, 83-75, at Reno.

For the first time this season, a Lady Rebels game will be televised on Saturday when Channel 25 (UPN cable 14) broadcasts the tape-delayed UNR game at 1 p.m.
