LAKE MEAD: Very few anglers were fishing over the Christmas holiday and those who were found relatively slow action for largemouth and striped bass, according to the Nevada Division of Wildlife.

One angler reported to NDOW that he caught a 23-pound striper early Tuesday morning at Pumphouse Cove. In recent weeks stripers have been coming to shallow water at Pumphouse and Government Wash following the weekly trout plants.

Stripers ranging from 1-4 pounds are being caught by boaters at Las Vegas Wash. Boaters who are fishing with shad are catching stripers in open water in Las Vegas Bay at depths of more than 100 feet.

Fishing continues to be fair for largemouth bass at Fish Island in the Overton Arm. Stripers are being caught in that area as well.

LAKE MOHAVE: There have been very few anglers in the Cottonwood Cove area during the past week. There continue to be reports of stripers from 1-3 pounds that are being caught on the Arizona side of Cottonwood Basin by boaters who are trolling with whole anchovies.

Shore anglers have been enjoying fair action for rainbow trout following the weekly U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service plants at Willow Beach. The next stocking is scheduled for Thursday.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR: Despite extremely cold evening temperatures, there continues to be open water around the fishing dock and at the upper end of the lake. Trout fishing was slow for the few anglers who tried their luck over Christmas weekend. Ice conditions are not safe for ice fishing.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR: A thin layer of ice that is not safe for ice fishing covers the lake.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA: Approximately 60 percent of the water is covered with ice. Boats cannot be launched at the lakes. Ice is not safe for ice fishing.
