Joe Delaney remembers 1974: Reynolds at the DI
Friday, Dec. 22, 2000 | 11:09 a.m.
Debbie Reynolds was powerful enough in 1974 to have an advertisement and marquee billing simply as Debbie, a la Dean, Sammy, Elvis and Sinatra, who used his last name only. The Desert Inn was Reynolds' favorite showroom and she starred there consistently until opening her own hotel in the 1980s, now closed. In recent years she has been active in films, receiving an Academy Award nomination for her role in Albert Brooks' "Mother." She has a co-starring role with Elizabeth Taylor in "Those Old Broads," an upcoming TV movie written by her daughter, Carrie Fisher. She will also perform at the Orleans over New Year's Eve weekend.
