CARSON CITY -- Steve Robinson, who formerly worked for the state during the administration of Gov. Paul Laxalt and then was employed in the federal government, has been named state forester to succeed Roy Trenoweth, who is retiring.
Robinson will take over the $75,000-a-year job Jan. 2. The division is responsible for overseeing fire prevention and fire control on state and privately owned lands.
The appointment was announced Wednesday by Mike Turnipseed, director of the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Robinson has been executive director of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation in Washington, D.C. He previously worked for the Department of Interior and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service during the GOP Administrations in Washington.
While in Nevada, Robinson worked for the state energy, prison, and natural resources departments.
One of his first jobs, Turnipseed said, will be to implement many of the recommendations that were identified during the Governor's Fire Summit held earlier this year. Those recommendations are to be released next month.
Robinson said, "I am looking forward to a return home and my old department."
