Letter: Bus service strands many casino workers

Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000 | 10:49 a.m.

I have been a resident of Las Vegas going on more than 40 years and I would like to know why, in these years, and years to come I'm sure, we do not have an adequate bus service for the people who work downtown and the Strip area? I'm talking about the swing and the early graveyard shift whose shift ends either 2 a.m., 3 a.m. or after.

I do not ride the bus, nor have I ever. Thank goodness I have my own transportation or I would be among the ones stranded downtown or elsewhere. I feel for the ones who have to "bum" rides or wait until 3 a.m. or 5 a.m. to get home. I have encountered some who just sleep in the lobby of an establishment waiting for their bus.

We live in a 24-hour town and there is no excuse for this, and this issue should be addressed.

San Diego and Los Angeles, to name a couple, run for 24 hours. I hope Mayor Oscar Goodman can see this dilemma and try to do something about it. What is wrong with a city of over 1 million and growing that there cannot be a solution to this problem?

Another obstacle I am really upset about, and I hope many others are, too, is why manhole covers are put right in the left side of traffic, just where the wheels of the left side of your vehicle hit them, knocking your car and loosening your nerves.

You hit the manhole cover and the whole chassis shakes, eventually leading to a wheel alignment.
