LV traffic court to start moratorium
Friday, Dec. 15, 2000 | 10:37 a.m.
Department 2 of the Las Vegas Municipal Court will hold its Holiday Traffic Court moratorium from Monday to Jan. 26.
Judge Betsy Kolkoski, whose bench handles all traffic cases, said the moratorium reduces the administrative cost of carrying old cases into the new year and allows defendants to start 2001 with a clean slate.
During the moratorium, defendants who appear at the court's front counter will be able to resolve their outstanding traffic cases without being arrested. The moratorium also will be extended to out-of-state motorists, provided they mail or fax proper documentation.
Penalties will be waived for up to three warrants. Jail time for additional warrants will be waived, but will carry fines as follows: $50 for the fourth, $100 for the fifth, $150 for the sixth, and $200 for the seventh or higher.
Jail will not be ordered for house arrest warrants or warrants requiring mandatory court appearances. For information, call the court's customer assistance division at 38-COURT (382-0878).
