Letter: Bush admitted mistakes made in younger days

I feel compelled to respond to a letter in your paper by Mary Mills on Dec. 11.
She accused Gov. George W. Bush of lying about a DUI conviction. I don't recall any time he lied about the DUI, but I can recall when Vice President Al Gore stood on stage during the debates and lied to millions of people about Florida schools, his sick grandmother's medicine (or her dogs) and his statements about Bush made to publications (which he denied on the debate until Jim Lehrer called him on it), along with other untruths.
I don't recall where anyone has accused Bush of being "hooked" on drugs, hard or otherwise. You ask, why wasn't Bush arrested? He was, for DUI. Do you feel better that he was? Should he have hidden behind his father's power and a fleet of attorneys?
Let's face it, more has gone on in the White House criminally in the past eight years than any of your statements about Bush. Why wasn't President Clinton arrested?
From the beginning, Bush admitted making mistakes when he was younger. I don't think there is a reader out there who hasn't in his or her life.
Obviously, Bush is a man who is able to take charge. Through funding of his own, he started a transition at no expense to the taxpayers.
He's trying to make appointments and get a team in place for a new administration to keep from disrupting the country more than it already has been.
