BLM, Forest Service begin recruiting for firefighters in Nevada

Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000 | 5:54 a.m.

The BLM in Nevada plans to add about 85 seasonal and permanent firefighting positions for the 2001 season, bringing their firefighting force to 288, the agency said.

Fifty of the new positions will be considered permanent, meaning job holders will be eligible for benefits.

The Forest Service will be filling 126 temporary and permanent wildland firefighting positions on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.

Fires burned 635,000 acres in Nevada this year. In 1999, a record 1.6 million acres in the state was consumed by flames.
