Airline files for bankruptcy

Allegiant Air Inc. of Fresno, Calif., announced Wednesday that it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
The airline said it will continue flights on its only remaining route, a daily flight between Fresno and Las Vegas. Allegiant said "skyrocketing" fuel prices had forced it to seek bankruptcy protection.
Last week, Allegiant canceled all of its flights except the Fresno-Las Vegas route, citing fuel costs. That cutback ended a daily flight between Long Beach, Calif., and Las Vegas. In late November, Allegiant cut its three daily flights between Las Vegas and Reno, just nine days after starting those flights.
