DETROIT -- Greektown Casino is offering city and Wayne County workers parking spaces at a structure within blocks of municipal offices.
Workers who lost their spaces when the casino opened in November have scurried around looking for affordable parking.
Greektown Casino said it will lease parking for $70 a month at the nearby structure, where parking is free up to six hours for casino customers. The casino controls about 3,400 spaces during the day and 4,050 at night.
"It's a very good solution," said Mary Zuckerman, assistant Wayne County executive. "The location is great, and the price is very reasonable for a parking structure in Detroit."
But for many municipal employees, the issue is affordability.
Asm Ratham, who works at the water board, said he would rather ride the shuttle from the lot near Tiger Stadium for $50 a month.
"I know that some people want to park closer to work," he told The Detroit News for a story Wednesday. "But that garage has falling cement. It has a sharp, spiraling climb, and there is no elevator."
