Las Vegas man, 29, shot to death
A Las Vegas man died after he was shot while driving along the 2100 block of Wendell Avenue, near Eastern and Washington avenues, early Sunday morning, Metro Police Department officials said.
Shawn L. Grover, 29, was shot shortly before 1 a.m., and his 22-year-old passenger suffered gunshot wounds. Grover's car crashed into a parked vehicle on Wendell Avenue, police said, and Grover was found dead at the scene. The passenger was treated at University Medical Center for minor injuries, police said.
Police are searching for the suspects, who were seen in a small white or silver car with tinted windows.
Anyone with information can call Metro's Homicide Section at 229-3521 or Secret Witness at 385-5556.
Lawyer named to judicial commission
A local lawyer was appointed to Nevada's Commission on Judicial Selection.
Las Vegas attorney Ann Bersi will join the seven-member commission that interviews and recommends candidates interested in replacing an outgoing judge.
Bersi is a deputy district attorney in the county's civil division, and as part of that job she is the Clark County School District's lawyer. She has also served as president of the State Bar of Nevada's Board of Governors.
The commission also has three members who do not work in the legal profession.
Information officer, manager hired
North Las Vegas City Manager Kurt Fritsch has made two appointments to fill the city's public information officer and information technology manager positions.
Brenda Johnson, formerly a spokeswoman with the city of Henderson, will fill the North Las Vegas public information officer position beginning Jan. 2.
For the past year Ballard Communications Inc. has provided the city's public relations services.
The salary for the position is from $56,000 to $76,300 per year.
Fritsch also appointed Ila Kowalski as information technology manager to head the city's computer operations.
Kowalski will join the city Dec. 18, at a salary range of $60,800 to $90,000.
Kowalski has 15 years of computer management, administration, network and security experience. She was formerly IT manager for Jackpot Enterprises, Inc.
