NEWRY, Maine -- American Skiing Co., the largest owner and operator of ski resorts in the United States, today said it agreed to buy MeriStar Hotels & Resorts Inc. for about $185.5 million in stock to expand in the lodging management business.
The new Doral International would combine American Skiing's resorts such as Steamboat in Colorado and Killington and Sugarbush in Vermont with MeriStar's management business, which runs hotels in such chains as Hilton, Sheraton and Holiday Inn and its own Doral brand of hotels and resorts. MeriStar does not operate in Las Vegas.
