Letter: Election is opportunity to educate
Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000 | 2:02 a.m.
The situation in Florida has certainly brought about an education of the population of this nation. Whether the people are Republican, Democrat, a member of another party, independent, or just aren't involved, they now have learned how the system is supposed to work.
We learned today that the U.S. Supreme Court deals with federal matters only. We learned that state supreme courts have to have a valid law or precedent to rely on for any rulings that have been made. Most of all I think that we have learned that our courts are supposed to be nonbiased. Whether that is true or not is yet to be seen.
Maybe now the American public will realize that it must assert itself, educate itself, and make an educated vote at the ballot box.
Feelings and emotions have no place at the ballot box. Logic and knowledge are required in order to make a proper decision when we vote.
Education is at the forefront of the American system. Americans, educate yourselves now!
