Editorial: Independence for disabled Nevadans

After several years of delays, a program has been under way since August to allow a limited number of severely disabled Nevadans to live in their homes instead of being institutionalized. But the Northern Nevada Center for Independent Living, according to the Associated Press, contends that only a handful of people have been helped so far.
While some delays have been caused by the federal government, which had to sign off on the use of Medicaid funds for these purposes, state government should move as quickly as possible to implement this worthy program. If a disabled man has the ability to be on his own and receive medical care at home, then reasonable steps should be made so that he can live independently.
