Legislature names committees

CARSON CITY -- Compared to the 1999 legislative session, there are few changes in committee assignments for the 2001 Legislature, which were released Wednesday.
There are no changes in the Senate, which is controlled by Republicans 12-9. The membership of the Senate did not change from two years ago. Clark County has five of the nine committee chairmanships in the Senate.
And there are only minor changes in the Assembly, where Democrats hold the majority 27-15. Eight of the 11 committee chairmen in the Assembly are from Clark County. The one imbalance appears on the powerful 14-member Ways and Means Committee that builds the budget. Sheila Leslie, D-Reno, is the only member from Washoe County. There are nine from Clark County and four from rural Nevada.
