Ribbons a warning of DUI

Red bows were tied onto 84 snow poles along the Kyle Canyon Road Monday morning to remind people to use designated drivers when using the highway after a day of partying at Mount Charleston.
Officers from the Nevada Highway Patrol and Metro Police were present at a ceremony that marked the 13th year of decorating the highway. State Sen. Jon Porter, R-Henderson, and Sandy Heverly of Stop DUI also attended.
Kyle Canyon Road, or State Route 157, was the first in the country to be designated as a Red Ribbon Road. The ribbons have been credited with helping to raise awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving.
"In the last 13 years we've seen a dramatic decrease in fatalities," Barbara Orcutt, owner of the Mount Charleston Lodge, said.
Ribbons and flowers for the snow poles were donated by a local florist.
