No decision yet, candidates say

Reports that Dennis Neilander will be selected as chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board went unconfirmed this morning, as the top candidates for the position said Gov. Kenny Guinn has yet to inform them of a decision.
And Guinn told the Sun this morning he has not yet decided who will chair the board, which is responsible for day-to-day regulation of the gaming industry in the state. Guinn said he won't name a chairman until the post is vacant upon the retirement of current Chairman Steve DuCharme.
DuCharme will retire on Dec. 31, and Guinn chief of staff Scott Scherer has been named to the control board. Scherer was viewed early as the top candidate, but there are growing indications that Neilander, second in seniority on the board to DuCharme, may be named to the chairman's position.
Both Scherer and Neilander said the governor has not made a decision, at least as of Tuesday night. Scherer said he believed it was likely Guinn would wait until after the last control board meeting chaired by DuCharme to announce a decision.
