Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000 | 9:33 a.m.

Cmdr. Charles Davidaitis, 53, also attempted to persuade his wife to take the blame for the accident, threatened to harm himself before police arrived at his house and made a hasty plan to flee to the airport, according to a police arrest report released Thursday.

Davidaitis was booked into the Clark County jail Sunday for driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident. He was later released.

The 22-year member of the force is accused of smashing his vehicle into a light pole, a fire hydrant and a chain-link fence Sunday in front of an elementary school and then driving away, according to the report.

Davidaitis' blood-alcohol level was 0.21.
