Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000 | 10:41 a.m.

Collins, from Redfield, Kan., has earned $26,266 in two days and has an 11-point lead in the average race. He's the first bareback rider to win the first two rounds of the NFR since Marvin Garrett did it in 1994 en route to the world title.

"I've been working hard for this," said Collins, who has a $15,000 lead in the world standings. "I've been really blessed with some great horses and I feel good. I'm healthy and I'm not sore.

"I've gotten great support with my whole family here. It's just one of those years. I can't explain it. It's going great."

In bull riding, rookie Cody Hancock of Taylor, Ariz., also claimed his second win in two nights. The consecutive victories took him from 15th to first in the world standings.

Hancock scored 90 points on Color Me Bad to push his average total to 183.

In steer wrestling, Trav Cadwell of Oakdale, Calif., won the second round with a 3.9-second run. Frank Thompson of Cheyenne, Wyo., was second at 4.1. Thompson is the leader in the two-head average and third in the world standings.

Only four sets of team ropers posted clean times. Bobby Hurley of Ceres, Calif., and Tyler Magnus of Llano, Texas, bounced back from a no-time in the first round to win the second in 5.0 seconds.

"Some of the guys had some trouble," Magnus said. "Fortunately for us, we had a good steer. We could use a lot more of these 5-flats."

Daniel Green of Oakdale, Calif., and Allen Bach of Millsap, Texas, used a 5.3-second, second-place run to take the lead in the average. Header Green moved to third in the world standings, while Bach sits seventh in the heeling standings.

Billy Etbauer of Ree Heights, S.D., the world champion saddle bronc rider who was bucked off Friday, had an 87-point ride on Skoals Tumbleweed to win the second round. Etbauer is second in the world standings, nearly $26,000 behind all-around leader Scott Johnston. Johnston, an Australian now living in Texas, is second in the average standings.

Ty Hays of Weatherford, Okla., won the calf roping with a 7.7-second run. He's fourth in the world standings, about $32,000 behind Blair Burk of Durant, Okla.

Kelly Yates of Pueblo, Colo., turned in 13.96-second run to win the second round of barrel racing. Charmayne James of Gustine, Texas, held a slim lead in the world standings by placing sixth, while Marlene maintained the lead in the average race.
