Former judge, lawmaker suspended from law practice

Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000 | 8:58 a.m.

The high court, responding to a petition from the State Bar of Nevada, said a suspension is warranted because "Stone poses a substantial threat of serious harm" to the public.

In its petition, the State Bar said Stone has had several complaints filed against him since June, alleging he misappropriated client funds, failed to respond to court orders or comply with court rules.

The temporary suspension remains in effect pending a further review of the complaints against Stone by the Bar's northern Nevada disciplinary board.

Stone, a Republican, served in the state Assembly from 1982 to 1986, and chaired the Assembly Judiciary Committee during the 1985 session. He was elected a district judge in 1990 and lost a re-election bid in 1996.
