Troy Herbst to be honored by SCORE
Friday, Dec. 1, 2000 | 12:44 p.m.
As if next week's opening of the family's newest casino in Las Vegas isn't keeping him busy enough, Troy Herbst will be in Southern California Sunday to be honored as the overall and Class 1 points champion at the SCORE Awards gala for the 2000 Duralast SCORE Desert Series.
A principal along with his older brothers Ed and Tim in the Herbst Oil Company and a primary driver for his family's Terrible Herbst Motorsports team, Troy will be picking up the top SCORE awards for the second time in three years and the fourth straight time in the unlimited Class 1.
All three Herbst brothers, whose new Terrible's hotel-casino will open at Paradise Road and Flamingo Wednesday night, will receive class champion checks as Ed and Tim captured the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck season title for the second consecutive year.
In addition to the two class championships won by the Herbst brothers, area desert racers Bekki Freeman, Billy Goerke and Mark Hutchins also will be honored for winning their respective class championships. Freeman, the only female regular driver in the 2000 Duralast SCORE Desert Series, won Class 1/2/1600 for the second time in three years, finishing second to Troy Herbst in the chase for the title.
