Auto accident victim found dead
A 30-year-old Las Vegas man who crashed his van into several parked cars in an apartment complex parking lot was found slumped over the wheel shot to death Thursday night.
Metro Police were called to the complex in the 2800 block of North Rancho Drive about 11:30 p.m. Thursday and found Elbert F. Bibbs dead from an apparent gunshot wound, police said.
Detectives determined Bibbs had just left a nearby apartment to go to work. Several people told police they heard several gunshots and then a crash, police said.
Police were unable to find anyone who witnessed the shooting. Police do not have a motive for the shooting.
Bibbs' slaying is the 89th homicide so far this year in Metro's jurisdiction compared with 105 homicides at the same time last year.
Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Metro's homicide unit at 229-3521 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
Clean-up event set for Saturday
Las Vegas City Councilwoman Lynette Boggs McDonald is inviting the community to help clean up a neighborhood on Saturday.
The cleanup is scheduled for the neighborhood bordered by Durango Drive, Alta Drive, Charleston Boulevard and Buffalo Drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The city's rapid response team will be on hand to help.
After the cleanup, volunteers and their families will meet at Johnson Middle School, 7701 Ducharme Ave., for a holiday celebration featuring a visit from Santa Claus.
