CARSON CITY -- Archie Pozzi Jr., who served in the Legislature for 20 years and was a champion for state workers, died Wednesday at age 81.
He had been admitted to the Carson Tahoe Hospital this week after suffering a stroke.
Pozzi formerly owned a car dealership in Carson City. He was elected to the Assembly in 1954 and served until 1966 when he was elected to the Senate, where he served until 1974.
Former Gov. Mike O'Callaghan said Pozzi was "not only an outstanding Nevadan but a fine American patriot."
"He had a lot of friends and a heart of gold. And he was a competent legislator," O'Callaghan said.
During most of his years in the Legislature, Pozzi served on the budget committees and was an advocate for higher pay and better benefits for state employees.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
