Labor Day party scheduled at park
KMZQ 100.5-FM and Nissan West will celebrate Labor Day Weekend with Sparks in the Park at 3 p.m. Saturday in Desert Breeze Park at Spring Mountain Road and Durango Drive.
The afternoon of fun will include live music, food and activities for children. It will end with Disney-designed fireworks.
No pets, coolers or alcohol are allowed. Cost for adults is $10, and children (3 and under) are free. Tickets will be available the day of the event.

Boulder City plans eighth annual event
Scholar/performers will portray Henry Ford, Teddy Roosevelt, Emma Goldman and John Dos Passos at the eighth annual Boulder City Chautauqua.
The event is scheduled 6:30 p.m. Sept. 8 and 9 in Boulder City's Bicentennial Park.
Donations for evening performances is $3.50 for adults and $1 for children age 10 and under. For more information, call Ihla Crowley at 294-4365.
Health fair on tap for patients, caregivers
The American Parkinson's Disease Association and JHC Health Center will host the second annual Parkinson's Disease Health and Wellness Fair 4-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at JHC Health Center, 1001 Shadow Lane.
The event is for individuals with Parkinson's and their caregivers and will include a second program on Africanized bees presented by Tim Szymanski of the Las Vegas Fire Department.

Internet class
An Internet class will be offered 6 p.m. Wednesday at the North Las Vegas Library, 2300 Civic Center Drive. This class will focus on the use of search engines. For more information, call Kathleen Hanselmann at 633-1070.
Firefighter graduation
Las Vegas Fire Department Capt. Dexter McCastle recently graduated from the Carl Holmes Executive Development Institute at Dillard's University in New Orleans. The course prepares executives for budgeting, career planning, team building and problem solving. Firefighters from across the country take the course for advancing their positions on the executive level, including fire chief.
Scholarships given out
Twenty-five students received scholarships Wednesday from the Southern Nevada Hispanic Employment Program Council during its annual training seminar at the Monte Carlo hotel-casino. The students are Tiffany Ann Campbell, Abel Carlos, John Castaneda Jr., Gerardo Castro, Adriana Clemmer, Esmeralda Garcia, Damian Omar Gomez, Bianca Gonzales, Lola Gonzales, Alma A. Guzman, Richard Hernandez, Laura Hernandez, Jacqueline Islas, Benton Lloyd II, Lidia Lorena Lule, Fred Medina, Oscar Parra Espinoza, Anna Laura Ramirez, Anna Reddick, Christopher Ruiz, Adam Villarreal, Karen Weksler, Jenny Wuebker and Yvette Zmalia.
