Letter: Hunters a big part of wildlife preservation
Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000 | 10:09 a.m.
Hunters, through the purchase of licenses, tags, stamps and taxes on equipment, have contributed more to wildlife preservation than any other group. Individuals who dislike hunting should read more of this country's history.
Who do we have to thank for our country's national park system, Overton Wildlife Management area, Key Pittman Wildlife Management area (named after the man who established the Key Pittman tax on sporting equipment), the Pahranagat and Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuges? These are the most beautiful wildlife areas close to Las Vegas and I would like to thank the employees of the Nevada Department of Wildlife and the national refuges for their outstanding work. Hunters are truly wildlife's best friend.
