Tung T. Vo was also indicted on charges of filing fraudulent state income tax returns in the years 1995-98 and failing to pay state income tax for those years, according to authorities.

Van Doan, Tuan Nguyen and Tung V. Nguyen were indicted on similar gambling charges related to events on Dec. 29, 1998 in South Plainfield, Middlesex County, authorities said.

All of the charges carry up to five years in jail and fines of $15,00 for each count.

An attorney general's office spokeswoman said the indictments did not specify what type of sporting events they defendants accepted bets on.
